MCC’s productions in music

‘Kahe Kabir’:

This is a concert of Saint Kabir’s spiritual poems with narration of his philosophical and social message. ‘Kahe Kabir’ opens with narration of Saint Kabir followed by the lyrics in Hindi language which highlights the universal philosophy of humanity and social equality through KabirBaani giving spiritual as well as social message.

Saaj Thumarichaa:

This is a unique experiment Thumari-Dadra genre in Marathi language. This concert, along with inputs about the origin and spread of Thumari genre; presents compositions of Thumari, Dadra, Kajri, Chaiti, Hori, Jhula with elegance of north Indian musical idiom with unique flavor of Marathi language.

‘Suran Gaao Saras’:

In this concert, young talented Harmonium player and composer Chaitanya Kunte presents his own contemporary compositions in Hindustani Art music. This concert is a brilliant example of ‘experimentation within the tradition’!

‘Bhairawi Darshan’:

Raag Bhairawi is a celebrated and popular melody in Indian music with variety of emotional textures and musical movements. In ‘Bhairawi Darshan’, we present traditional and contemporary compositions such as Raag-Dhyaan, Dhrupad, Khayal, Thumari, Tappa, Bhajan in Bhairawi with elaborate improvisation.

‘Laya-Saras-Gaan’:

In Hindustani art music, along with the elements of Swar (musical notes) and Sahitya (lyrics), the element of Laya-Taal (time and rhythm) is a major element adding another dimension of aesthetic beauty. In this concert, noted popular vocalist Arati Anklikar presents some compositions having unusual but beautiful rhythmic patterns compositions, with Bandish-s in ‘Ardha Matra Taal-s’ such as Neel Taal (7 and 1/2) and Sunand Taal (9 and 1/2)

‘Nayika-Bhav-Tarang’:

A program based on a traditional theme of Nayeeka-Bhed. In Indian literature and music, the concept of ‘Nayikaa’ is well appreciated. Nayeeka is a girl or a woman deeply in love with her beloved and hence in the blossoming of their relationship she experiences subtle shades of being in love and being loved, which is depicted in classical compositions. The compositions include Khayal and various Raag-based compositions to express the sentiments like love, devotion, distress, jealousy, anger, surrender of Nayikaa-s.

‘Megh-Rang’:

A concert on the theme of rainy season, with depiction of various shades of nature and human emotions in rainy season expressed in not only ‘Raag Malhar’ but also in other Raag-s. Research, script and direction: Chaitanya Kunte

Vocalists: Aparna Kelkar, Arati Thakur and Hemant Pendase

‘Sawan Ki Ritu’:

This is a special concert of songs of rainy season in Thumari-Dadra genre, exploring their cultural context and musical expression.

‘Basant-Rang’:

A concert celebrates the beauty of spring season with other traditional festivals like Holi, Raam-Janma while presenting rich, colorful compositions of Khayal, Thumari, Hori, Chaiti and Bhajan.

‘Samprati’:

This concert includes the Bandish-s of Khayal-s in various common Raag-s, but composed with a different approach towards structure of Raag and compositions of Thumari-Dadra genre.

‘Ramadas Padawali’:

A recital of rich philosophical poetry of medieval Marathi saint poet Ramdas. In this performance, we present these lyrics with display of musical and literary aesthetic values highlighted in them.

‘Manarangache Aabhal’:

This performance is another example of fine composership in which we present poems of great Marathi poets such as Shanta Shelke, Mangesh Padgaonkar, Kusumagraj, Indira Sant, Vinda Karandikar, N. D. Mahanor, etc.

Sangeet Sankalp : Sangeet Sankalp is a nationwide network of budding artists in classical dance and music. Three music and dance conferences per year are organized by the MCC in collaboration with Sangeet Sankalp and Spectrum in which outstation artists are invited to perform for Pune audiences. Sameer Dubley of Spectrum , Pune is in - charge of Sangeet Sankalpa. He is efficiently managing the yearly festival for the last 5 years.
