Deerghank Spardha : This competition is one of its kind and unique in nature. There have been many one-act plays as well as full-length play competitions organized by many institutions all over Maharashtra and beyond. We realised the need of the day and started conducting these competitions from the year 2004 for ‘Deerghankas’ , long one act plays with duration of 70 to 90 minutes. The winners in various categories such as writing, acting, direction, music, light and set design etc. are awarded handsome prizes. The best play amongst all is invited to perform in our prestigious theatre festival every year. This challenging competition is gaining popularity slowly but steadily year after year.

Su-Darshan Rang-Mahotsav : This 8 to 10 day theatre festival held every year in the month of January has become identity of the MCC. The event is organized from the very first year of establishment of Su-Darshan Rangamanch. It is a multilingual festival in which well-known theatre productions from all over India are invited. So far, groups like Aawishkaar (Mumbai), Padatik (Kolkata), Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangha, Theatre Unit (Mumbai) and directors such as Pt. Satyadev Dubey, Mr Ramu Ramnathan, Mr. Manav Kaul, Mr. Manoj Shah have presented their productions in Marathi, Hindi, English, Bengali and Gujrathi in this festival.

Grips Theatre Festival: This concept was developed in post-war Germany. It is a movement in the children’s theatre, in which adults perform the roles of child characters. Dr. Mohan Agashe, present president of MCC, transplanted this concept in India. Today, Grips plays are produced by a select few theatre groups in the country, and the MCC leads them all in the number of productions and performances as well. The MCC has produced 12 such plays and has performed more than 2000 shows all over the country. Mr. Shreerang Godbole has contributed a lot as a writer and a director towards this success.

Panikkar Festival 2006

Shri Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, for four decades, has given a new lease of life for the age old Sanskrit drama tradition. He has also carved out a niche for himself in the evolution of a regional theatre movement making a major contribution towards National Theatre in Modern India.
‘Maharashtra Cultural Centre’ and ‘Atul Pethe Productions’ have jointly presented in 2006 a unique event of three day’s festival of plays by the veteran writer director from Kerala, Shri Kavalam Narayana Panikkar. This unique festival was a great feast to the theatre lovers of Maharashtra.
We presented three of Panikkar’s plays namely “Raja” and “Maya” in Malayalam and “Vikramorwashiyam” in Sanskrit on 19th,20th & 21st August 2006 at Balgandharva Rangmandir , Pune. Due to the herculean efforts of Shri. Atul Pethe this festival was a great success.
